Hand Drafting Module:

Learning the essentials
of technical drawing

In this module we will learn the most essential rules of Technical Drawing. This module is intended as a preliminary step to the CAD module, separating the tasks of learning the rules of technical drafting and working with CAD programs on the computer.

Technical Drawing can be viewed as a type of language with which engineers communicate, for example providing others with all the information necessary to manufacture a certain product. Like ordinary languages there are certain rules or conventions which the one who looks at a technical drawing expects the person who made the drawing has obeyed by.

Another objective of this module is to train everybody in visualizing 3-dimensional objects and producing essentially 2-dimensional views thereof. And of course : reading 2-dimensional drawing and generating a 3-dimension image of the body in your mind.

The textbook "Engineering Graphics Workbook" will serve us well, providing both the essential rules of Technical Drawings and many examples for practicing and homework assignments.

The following topics will be covered :

If, for the hand drawing exercises, you are in need of special paper and are connected to a printer click on your choice and hit the "Print" button on your browser :
Checkered paper for orthogonal views
paper for isometric view
